Winding down, winding up.

At the end of next week, I will be able to exclaim, "WE SURVIVED SUMMER TERM!" I can't believe summer has gone by so quickly this year!

Tonight is BubTar's final swim team practice, complete with a pasta party (note to self, GO TO THE STORE TODAY!). I also need to register him for fall ball tonight, though it doesn't start until the end of August, thankfully!

Next week, I have to register him for school. I have a math exam on Monday and a final exam on Thursday, then I will have ONE blissful week of freedom before my fall term starts. We have a mini-vacation coming up, too, my parents will be renting a lake house for a few days.

On the 24th, Josh and I go back to school. We are both taking FULL course loads. He is taking 12 hours and I am taking 14, plus volunteer time at the hospital. My schedule will look something like this, including traveling time:

Monday:
Biology 5:30-9:30pm
Volunteer at the hospital 9:30pm-12:30am

Tuesday:
Chemistry 5:30-9:30pm

Wednesday:
Biology 5:30-9:30pm

Thursday:
Chemistry 5:30-9:30pm

Plus two online courses, Comp II and a computer class that I've been told is a total blow off course. We shall see about that. I dropped half a grand on my science texts alone (I have to admit, buying them made me a little giddy to be back in science courses after so much math!). Luckily, Josh took Comp II last semester and I can just reuse his text.

School starts for the kids on the 25th, KayTar goes from 7:30am-11am, BubTar goes from 7:50am-3:05pm. I'm hoping to squeeze in a workout at the Y while they are both in class and maybe a bit of study time, too. My goal will be to be totally free from 3:05, when both kids are home, until 5:30, when I leave the house, so we can get a bit of quality time every day, though, I imagine some of this will be spent with BubTar and I bonding over our respective homework assignments. I also want to volunteer at their school one day each week, maybe on Friday since it is less likely to be filled with urgent exam studying or last minute assignments. The kids will be in bed by the time I get home every night, and I imagine Josh will be, too, by the time I get home on Mondays. Monday will be a busy night, as it is also slated for BubTar's baseball practice. Saturday and Sunday will be free for baseball games, family time, and homework.

It sounds like a lot, but in reality it isn't too different than our summer has been. I've been gone 4 nights a week, Josh has taken the kids to the Y for swim team practice THREE nights a week, and somehow we've all survived. The only major hiccup came after KayTar's brief hospitalization, laundry and homework swelled to an almost unmanageable high, but in less than a week it was under control again. I'm really hoping for a hospitalization free semester, though!

What about you, has school started for your kids yet? Are you ready for fall?

Just two more weeks of this!

PS: KayTar just HAPPENS to be due for her next episode right around the first day of school. OF COURSE!

We are SO READY for school. August 24th is our day. I am counting down. John John and Aliya will be at the same school, on the same bus, and have the same hours, 8:30-3:30. Holy cow! Oh, and Joshie starts prek this year, Mon and Wed 9-12.

Good Luck this year. I can't believe they start 2nd grade this year? Where did our babies go???

Holy crap! How do you guys do it? Oh yeah - y'all are youngsters! You and Josh keep looking for those Farkle chips (doesn't that sound gross?).

School here doesn't start until after Labor Day - the 9th, to be exact.

You are amazing, K, you know that? You are.

Checked if you qualify for any scholarships? You're a young mom, it's worth a shot!

And UGH, textbooks. I finally figured out a few years into college that the bookstore is a HUGE ripoff; thank you Amazon for giving at least something of a discount! And for math classes and such, seriously, get the previous edition and you can save SO much.

Yeah, we both get financial aid, though it was HARD won and I paid out of pocket all last year because of mistakes in the system on their end. We finally got a reimbursement and this is our first semester with aid.

I have no idea how you do it all. No idea.

We started school Thursday. An interesting start, to say the least. My dream come true (to teach Kindergareten) has turned out to be the hardest thing I've ever done!

Good luck! I have been back since Tuesday. The Mr. has another week, the kids a week and a half. This summer seemed so short.

Seriously Kyla, I don't know how you do it. I know this fall isn't going to be too different from you summer...and I don't know how you've done that either. At least not without much complaining and panicking. I wish I knew how to manage time as well as you do!

I'm excited for your mini-vacation. It'll be a great time for your entire family, no doubt!

eek!! The kids go back to school August 24th, and we're on vacation the week before that, so I feel like I only have 1 week of summer left. It went so fast, I can't say I'm ready for it to be over. But thanks for reminding me I need to register for class. :)

Gosh, I don't know how you do it all. You make me ashamed for how little I accomplish on a daily basis.

I'm still not getting the August start to school. Is that an American thing??

By the way, if I end up at BlogHer next year, do let's make a plan to meet in person. Yes?

This gave me a little stomach lurch thinking about starting school, myself, in September. An excited lurch, but a lurch nonetheless. Because...only 4 more months 'til I am catching babies as a mini-midwife (and only 32 more until I am a midwife proper). Aaah! Mme L starts her junior kindergarten on September 8th. She's excited. And so am I.

I love that shot of the kids in the pool.

Yowza! You, Kyla, are amazing and you have one impressive family.

Summer vs. fall doesn't make much difference to us at this point. The kids are too young for school, or at least I haven't found a worthwhile preschool around here. So, daycare is the same in the fall as it is in the summer. I finished my coursework a while ago, and my research job and responsibilities go year-round. The big difference is that when I go to my meetings at the two universities where I do my research, parking is a lot easier in the summer!
