It has been an entire decade...

Since these two kids got married. I was 17 and he was 18. We met on the Internet when we were 13! I'm sure a lot of people thought we were crazy and wouldn't make it, but here we are a decade later, still happy and even more in love...with 2 kids, a house, a dog, a cat, a guinea pig, a snake to show for it!
Today we are flying to Vegas to celebrate! WOOHOO! :)

Hi,

I follow your blog from afar.

What I want to know is this: Were you as smart as a kid (as you obviously are now) when you made the monumental decision to get married so young. Did you not have academic aspirations in high school? Were your parents and teachers freaked out that such a gifted student would suspend higher education for marriage? Did you ever regret that you didn't go straight through to university/med school?

Everything has worked out so well for you, it's just so great.

Great questions!

I was always a smart kid, GT, NHS, and I graduated at 16. However, I had absolutely NO IDEA what I wanted to do at graduation. I did know that I wanted a life with Josh, and we both knew we wanted kids, so that is where we started. I don't think I ever would have been drawn to medicine if we had done it another way, because it was my experiences with KayTar that made me fall in love with medicine in the first place. It IS much harder to pursue with a family and the responsibilities I have now, but if I had gone to university right out of school, I don't know where I would have ended up. There are times when Josh and I are both up studying after putting the kids to sleep, where we mention how much easier it would be if we did things in the "right" order, but the truth is, I don't think either of us would ended up where we are if we had taken another path. Our life isn't the easiest at times (like during finals when KayTar needs surgery or something!), but I don't think either of us has ever regretted the backwards order we ended up doing things in.

My mom married my dad when she was 17. They're celebrating their 50th anniversary this summer. Love conquers all. Even med school!

Congratulations and have fun in Vegas!
