A Milestone, presented in digital media.

I've never in my life seen him this excited. Not at Christmas, not at birthdays. Never. He is beyond ecstatic.

I thought he was sobbing earlier when making those squealing noises, but when I asked what was wrong he said, "I AM JUST SO EXCITED!1,000,000 (yes, that is meant to be excited! to the 1,000,000th power, but my superscript isn't coming out so clearly).

He has been bouncing around and shouting "LOOK! I CAN TALK WITHOUT OPENING MY TEETH NOW!" and "LOOK! I CANT BREATH WITHOUT OPENING MY TEETH NOW!" which I supposed he never realized he could do before. But there is just SO! MUCH! EXCITEMENT! in his little body, I fear it will spontaneously combust.

And me? Well, it sure does happen fast. Kindergarten last week, lost baby tooth this week. My boy. He is growing up, and he is so very excited about it. Truthfully, at times like these, his excitement about it all far outshines those motherly pangs of babyhood gone by. Nights like these you remember forever, not for the days gone by or for the shedding of a tiny tooth that began forming in my womb all those years ago; but because of the contagious excitement of one little boy, who isn't quite so little anymore.

***

Edited to add: He woke up at 6am, thrilled with his money from the tooth fairy. I sent him back to bed for a bit more sleep. When he woke up at 7am, he was sobbing because "I want my Toothy back!!" Yes, he named it Toothy. He doesn't want it back in his mouth, I think he wants it has a collectible. But he's broken into sobs twice over it today already. Losing a tooth is quite the emotional rollercoaster evidently. The highs and lows of growing up.

Oh this is great! And it's how I felt about Ben going back to school. How could I possibly be sad or nostalgic in the face of all that giddyness?

His excitement is contagious. I don't think I've ever been as excited about someone's tooth coming out before!

How do you live with that cuteness day in and day out? I would just melt...

Oh my. I hadn't even thought about thet yet. Is it kind of awful, seeing your child bleeding even if you know it's okay bleeding? I've only dealt with not-good blood so far.

Congratulations to your big boy!

When my friend's daughter lost her first tooth they had the presence of mind to write a note asking TF if they could keep the first tooth, because it's so special. Of course, the Tooth Fairy said "yes." I smacked my forehead and wished I had thought of doing that. Instead, hid the boy's first tooth stealthily in my husband's armoire. I still worry that he will find it and crush the magic of believing.

I remember have this tiny special pillow with a tiny pocket for my lost tooth. We left the pillow out for the Tooth Fairy, and in the morning there was a quarter in the pocket instead. Good times.

Congrats to BubTar on the Big Boy milestone!

Congrats to your little guy on this big milestone! We were "forced" to return each tooth with the money because Liam wrote heart-wrenching notes to the tooth fairy pleading with her to let him keep his teeth.

I love the excitement!!! hehehe So cute! He lost the same tooth Matt just lost! And the ones on the sides are loose now too just like Nathan's. Funny! Lucky you, Nathan actually went back to sleep after waking up early! lol

It's the squealing that totally does me in here. Heartbreaking in its cuteness, and I just can't stop smiling.

And that bit about shedding a tooth that began growing in your womb. Ok. Now I'm tearing up.
