Psst...want to know a secret?

Next week, SELF Magazine is flying us to New York City for a photo shoot to go along with the piece they are doing on us.

What piece, you say? The piece I was interviewed for a week or so after my little speech at the Capitol. This guy contacted me and subsequently interviewed me over the phone. It was a conversation that my little darlings interrupted with shrieks and sobs about 10 times. That is to say, a VERY professional interview on my part, I'm sure. Much like the one I gave a couple months ago that was interrupted by BubTar shouting, "Moooom! Come wipe my BUUUUUUTT!" At least this one steered clear of potty talk.

Last Monday I missed a phone call, while I was doing something glamorous like changing a dirty diaper, and when I checked the message, I was shocked to hear the senior photo editor from SELF say "We want to fly you to New York for a photo shoot in the next few weeks!". Crazy, right? We've been nailing down the specifics since then, but I figured it was time to let the cat out of the bag.

We're going to New York next week...for a photo shoot! We have officially entered the Twilight Zone.

PS: Forthcoming post about how terrified I am about flying with KayTar, the little dear who has episodes every time we enter an airport and who also is in an incredibly difficult behavioral stage...but for now, we can just forget about that and be excited. SQUEE! and all of that good stuff.

That is excellent, what a great experience to have!

I know I only lurk on your blog but can I share something I use to do with my DD. I made lots of little books for her about the experiences we were going to have e.g.. Last year we moved countries which was quite an upheavel. It helped DD greatly having everything in book form. I made the book as a time line so that she could see that one day 1 our furniture would go, day 2 we'd move to a hotel, day 3 we would go to the airport etc.

Good luck.

YAY! That's awesome and amazing and inspiring. I am so excited for you!

(On a separate note, you should rent King of Kong, which is a documentary about people trying to break the King Kong record. Besides being an excellent movie, one of the scenes involves the one record breaker's son interrupting his attempt at record breaking with a "Daaaaaad, come wipe my butt! Stop playing Donkey Kong!" So funny.)

And still YAY!

That is very exciting! Are all four of you going or is it you and Kaytar?

I will have everything crossed for you that you get there and back with minimum fuss! (And maximum enjoyment!)

What is the best thing is that you have something to say, and people ARE LISTENING!!!!

yay you, Kyla! and um, the flying and the episodes...is there anything the docs can suggest to make the experience less traumatic for all?

There are a series of books about first experiences. Do you think if you checked out the one on flying in an airplane, that would help her? You could show her some of things you will do, see, experience, etc. I know she might not understand everything, but it just might give her a point of reference.

Try to get to F.A.O. Schwartz, the uber toy store that's right near Central Park. Kay-Tar will go wild. Or, hmmmmm, maybe that's not what you're hoping for.

The MOMA is very nice as well.
