Marriage, as defined by a 5 year old

BubTar: So tell me about when you and dad got married. Were you parents then?

Me: No, we weren't parents yet. A few months after we got married, then I got pregnant with you and then you were born a while later. That made us parents.

BubTar: What made you get married?

Me: Well, Dad asked me to marry him and I said yes. So we did.

BubTar: Ohhhh! So he thought you were like the prettiest girl, and you thought he was the prettiest, uhhm, I mean COOLEST guy...so you got married?

Me: Sure.

****

Tonight at bedtime:

BubTar: I never want to get married.

Me: Why?

BubTar: Because I'm so shy and I don't like kissing anyone, except parents, and only MY parents who are not strangers, and KayTar too. I don't want to get married and have to kiss someone.

Me: Okay, baby. But you might change your mind one day...and that would be okay, too.

My 7 year old son tells me he will never get married. He tells me that will adopt one boy... He tells me he is going to live in the outback and I can visit him once a year on his birthday!

I love these kids!

Cutie pie.

Rachel thinks when you give someone a romantic kiss you ARE marrying them, that the act of kissing is the wedding.

LOL at that "cool" photo...that is too precious.

Also LOL about marriage according to a 5 y.o.

I'm just surprised he didn't say he was going to marry you!

Patience is going to marry Dad, you see, and move into the house next door with the cats. I can keep the dog and come visit. Oy LOL!!

He might change his mind if he met my little gal! LOL

Seriously, this kid is melting my heart. What a smart, sensitive little man!

That is too cute. Bub is so great.

Easton is on my lap and saw the picture and said, "Oh no! Hair!" and then "Water's in it" and then "Buzz buzz" (haircuts around here). I personally love the 'hawk and wish I could do something with E's.

I like BubTar quite a lot.

And: Jack wants to marry Ben. What a can of worms that is! Two cans, actually. There are the same-sex issues, and the genetic counseling they'd need, being brothers. ;)

Oh, geez, I can hardly wait for little gems like this.

I love that he loves kissing you and Josh and KayTar.

Love it! Avery's convinced that I've always been a mommy, not too far from the truth ;)She references the past by saying, so I/Livie/Lila was in your belly then?

That face and that hair!
My son tried to convince a friend of his to marry him a while back but she would have none of it - they were, she announced "friends and cousins" and friends and cousins can never wed.
(they weren't cousins, either.)

Ha! I remember my mom saying the exact same thing to me when I learned about sex when I was 7. I said I would never want to do that and she said I might feel differently when I'm older.

Very sweet! Kids say the cutest things. I'm having a chuckle thinking about him reading this post as a teenager. Also? I'm LOVING the mohawk!

Ha! Remind him of this when he turns 15.

I'm so glad you have this in writing to remind him someday. Priceless!

AW! He's so cute Kyla. I can almost hear his little voice as you talked about his questions.
:-) I love the faux-hawk. Bugga has that T-shirt too.
