There it is. She's not actually WALKING-walking yet. Not the independent, I can stand on my own two feet for more than 30 seconds and then choose to walk to anywhere I please type of walking. But she is consistently taking up to seven steps between people. Then her balance falters. Balance is still her biggest issue. The therapist says she has excellent muscle tone and is quite capable. She just can't stay steady for too long. But there are steps being taken, and there is great rejoicing. I wouldn't say "She's walking!" yet...we're going to wait for the independent, I can stand on my own two feet for more than 30 seconds and then choose to walk to anywhere I please type of walking before making that particular declaration...but it is what it is...and it is good.
And a rare photo of her NOT sitting in the beloved W position.
I would definitely say she is walking.
ReplyDeleteWoo-hoo. Beautiful.
Way to go Katie! So awesome! That's wonderful that she has good muscle tone. She looks really good in the video. I come you see lots more steps and independent walking soon. Anika learned to walk independently before walking still independently. Standing is actually harder that walking for bad balance. Once again...go Katie go!
ReplyDeleteyay!
ReplyDeleteYAAAAAAAAAY! That's walking in our book!!!! WOOOOOT! Go KayTar GOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteMy heart was racing with pride...
ReplyDeleteYAAAAAAAY!
ReplyDeleteFirst eight steps, then the world.
Kyla I have tried to post a comment several times in the Thinking Blogger comments but they haven't shown up. Are they in your coment moderation box by any chance?
ReplyDeleteRaehan: One of them was in moderation, but now it is posted. It is the only one that has gone through.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS EVERYONE!!!
I agree with Raehan: that's definitely walking!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny, too, about the W position: I was really fond of it when I was KayTar's age, and one of my earliest memories is of my Early Intervention PT telling me to 'fix my feet!'
Wha-hooo! I remember this stage with Miss M. It was so endearing. As long as she had a destination where she knew she was safe to collapse, she would take those first tentative steps. The joy and exhilaration on their faces in that moment is priceless. Congratulations, KayTar
ReplyDeleteYay, KayTar!
ReplyDeleteYEAH!!! Go, KayTar!!! You're momma is going to need some new running shoes soon!
ReplyDeleteThe walking was sweet, but I LOVE THE CLAPPING when she reaches her destination!
hehe, great walking : ) the walking at the "not quite comfortable" stage cracks me up because it has this inevitable quality about... sort of, "if i try to walk faster than it will be longer until i fall..." idea and you can just see the kid trying to maximize the staying up time
ReplyDeleteI don't have words...only a wide smile. Thanks for sharing Kyla
ReplyDeleteOhmigod. I'm all weepy now. That's so beautiful. And she IS walking!
ReplyDeleteYou guys must be over the moon.
